After reading glowing reviews about Auxerre, saying it is almost the most beautiful little town in France, we decided that we had to visit it too.
However, in reality things somehow didn’t go as planned. Apparently, we arrived at the wrong time. The streets really are very charming. The church is beautiful, and the town hall is not far behind. There are lots of people in the center. Everyone sits in the summer cafés, strolls around, and the streets are packed. But if you walk just a little way away from the center, there you are: deserted streets and the same beautiful houses — enjoy them as much as you like.
After wandering around a bit, we moved on, not especially impressed, alas....
