Dune of Pilat

Pyla Dune is the largest sand dune in Europe, located on the shore of the Bay of Biscay. The dune is 107 meters above sea level. It is 500 meters wide and 3 km long.

I’d also like to add: to see it, we drove an extra 600 km, as the dune was not quite along the planned route. But! We don’t regret it one bit. We had never seen anything like it before. And we really liked it! We were just not very lucky with the weather — it was cloudy and cool. I think when it’s warm and you can go for a swim, it’s absolutely great!

There is a large paid parking lot near the dune. As you walk along the path to the dune, souvenirs and some food are sold.
