Excursion to the mine.
The excursion was a complete disappointment. It all started with the fact that we bought a ticket for the excursion that was supposed to take place at three o’clock. We had to fill two hours somehow. We walked from the mine to the town of Montecatini Val di Cecina, where we found the museum of this mine. Our tickets allowed us to visit it for free. The museum feels a bit contrived. Lots of text, but basically nothing interesting. The various rock types are presented worse than those we saw in the shop of this cave.
The mine tour did not really improve the impression left by the museum. The mine itself is very interesting, huge, multi-level. But literally only a couple of meters are open to visitors.... Then we were taken to see the tower. It housed the old elevator that, as we understood it, was used to lift copper out of the mine. The tour was in Italian, so we had to guess about everything.
The contrived excursion still lasted 45 minutes... Perhaps we would have liked it more if we had understood at least something.

Excursion to the mine.

The medieval town of Montecatini Val di Cecina. Entrance to the museum.

A section of open tunnels.

The icon is taken from the chapel located deeper inside.

Behind the grate is the lower part of the shaft, which is now completely flooded with water.
