The castle was built in the 15th century.
It was heavily damaged during the Napoleonic Wars.
Reconstructed in the 20th century. An architect from Bavaria was invited to reconstruct the castle. It was decided to rebuild it in the style of Kreuzenstein Castle near Vienna.
During World War II, the castle was slightly damaged. Now the castle belongs to the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The castle is open to visitors only in July and August.
