Crimea Nuclear Power Plant

Amazing...

After the settlement of Shchyolkino was built, construction of the power plant itself began in 1982. Everything went according to plan until 1986. After the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and due to the economic crisis, construction was suspended, and in 1989 it was stopped altogether. The first unit was 80% complete, the second - 16%. Four such units were planned.

Near the station there are 8 non-working wind turbines, installed back in Soviet times.

The Crimean Nuclear Power Plant has a twin, the Stendal Nuclear Power Plant, 100 kilometers from Berlin. Stendal is also unfinished; construction was suspended in 1991 due to non-compliance with safety requirements.

We arrived at the station in the evening. There was not a soul around. Near the main unit, work was in full swing, people were bustling about, welding something. A crane was operating. One of the workers came up to us. He said the tour cost 50 UAH per person. We paid, and the guide came out - a scruffy-looking old man. It was obvious that these so-called tours had already become quite tiresome for him. He was not really able to tell anything properly or interestingly. But in principle, that was not the main thing. The main thing was that they let us into the station!
