Day 12: January 30

Mirissa - Tangalle

Sri Lanka, 2018

Itinerary

In the morning the sky was overcast and there was a light, quiet rain. And we are heading further, to Tangalle.

At last the road became less crowded with all kinds of trucks and buses, so the drive is much more pleasant. Along the way, we only stopped a couple of times in towns with lots of traffic and road chaos.

We settled into a small hotel near Goyambokka Beach, a couple of kilometers before Tangalle itself. It is so quiet here. Our room is on the second floor with a large balcony and a view of palm trees and other trees. There are lots of birds here. I have never seen such a variety of birds before. They all sing, calling to one another. Squirrels are darting along the branches too. Volchiy says that today we are living in a zoo :)

We had just checked into the hotel when the downpour began. We drank tea with cookies on the balcony to the sound of the rain.

When the rain stopped, we went to the beach. The beach is just a stone’s throw away. Even from our balcony, you can hear the ocean roaring.

The beach is very beautiful. There were almost no people. We saw many crabs on the rocks.

Goyambokka Beach. Almost deserted.

After swimming a bit at our beach, we went to see what the beach in Tangalle is like.

In Tangalle, there are lots and lots of hotels and restaurants along the beach. The beach is pretty good. There are significantly more people, and there is none of the peace and quiet that we have. But there are places to eat :)
