Effelder Forest - Wehebach Dam - Genkel Dam - Meinweg
Düsseldorf 2021
April began with a poppy seed roll.
For the first time in my life, I decided to make it myself, and the result exceeded my expectations :)
It seemed to me that this was the most delicious poppy seed roll of my life…

Volchiy came into the kitchen to check what I was doing, and I’m rolling a roulade :)

My first poppy seed roll!

Crossing the German-Dutch border
Perhaps because of the holidays, there were practically no people in the forest. It was very quiet, and by evening it became completely sunny.
We found a thick, comfortable log that was very convenient to lie on, and we even dozed off a little in the sun.

Healthy sleep in the forest

During the week we went to the suburbs of Cologne to pick up a used TV stand.
We don’t have a TV; we use a projector. But we wanted to fill the empty space with something.
In my opinion, it turned out nicely :)

Volchiy bought a used Apple keyboard through an eBay auction.
The keyboard is in excellent condition, truly like new, and the price was three times cheaper :)

I wanted to show how our glass-topped table is slowly filling up with all sorts of little things.

Volchiy made a very tasty minestrone soup! Here’s how it happened: we were sitting on the sofa and choosing which new soup to make.
We opened Wikipedia’s list of soups from all over the world, and the list there is certainly impressive.
In the end, we settled on minestrone.
And not in vain — right now it’s number one in my ranking of soups made by Volchiy :)

Soup number one!

Volchiy bought 3 pairs of used hiking boots.
He has already tried two of them (the ones on the left) on our forest walks.

Boots. All from the Scarpa brand.

Boots for a serious hike :)

Cloudy, but still very beautiful
We were tired, but I was so happy after this walk.
And when we got home, I got out of the car and dropped my phone on the asphalt. Its screen shattered into pieces.

After a few days, I decided to buy a new phone :)
It can take such cool photos.

Unfortunately, most of the pines around the dam are dead and dry. It is a very sad sight — a dead forest. I read in Wikipedia about beetles that gnaw at the bark; apparently they are the cause — how else could so many trees have died?.. So we didn’t really like it there very much.

I’m by the dam on the other side, where it’s divided by a road. It’s getting dark.

Volchem really liked the old tree

Wolf brought an improvised little table out of the forest, and we had a tea party.

Looking at our photos, the Reader might think that our lives consist of nothing but shopping (mostly second-hand stuff :)), cooking, and walks in the forest. But in reality, our lives are of course made up of so much more than that....
Our lives are woven from delicate threads that are hard to see with the naked eye. They are woven from moments that cannot be written about, because sometimes they are very personal, and sometimes they are hard to put into words. These are moments of uncaused joy or sadness, moments of absolute silence in the forest, the scent of blossoming trees, birdsong, music that touches the soul, tears after another episode of a favorite TV series, moments of fear and pain for loved ones who are far away, moments of despair, moments of the meaninglessness of existence....
But here is a little of what was left behind the scenes and what can be written about:
