Portugal 2020

Day 6: October 6

Alvor - Albandeira Beach - Alvor

Portugal 2020

Itinerary

The region in the south of Portugal is called the Algarve. Here there are many beautiful beaches with golden cliffs. We head to one of these beaches, Praia de Albandeira, after breakfast. Here the cliffs form similar coves and passages between them, as we saw yesterday evening.

Passage in the rocks between the bays

I really like it here. Thanks to the bay being sheltered, there are almost no waves here. The water is just as cold, but Volchiy is swimming for a long time again. And I came up with some entertainment for myself. I run up and dive into the water with a running start. On this beach, that trick works because there is decent depth right away, unlike yesterday’s beach, where it was very shallow. I really like this feeling — running out of the cold water into the sun. It feels as if millions of tiny needles are piercing your skin, and warmth and lightness spread through your whole body.

Gradually, after 5–6 runs into the water, the body apparently does get used to the water temperature, and I even swim a little.

We warm up, drink tea from a thermos, and then swim again. And then we go for a walk along the shore. It’s very beautiful here. Steep cliffs.

We reach the next bay. It’s pure idyll here — almost no people at all. We head down a steep path. I run in and out of the ocean again. For some reason, the water seems colder than in the previous bay, or maybe we’ve just gotten very hot while walking.

We warmed up, then swam a little more. I was covered in sand from head to toe. No one else ever came to the bay, and besides us there were at most 6 other people there. It was one of the best beaches… Clear transparent blue water. Soft warm sand that was so pleasant to lie on. Silence. Serenity.

In the evening, when it got dark, Volchy went for a walk around the town. I wanted to stay home.
