Bay at the edge of the cape
Tinos, the marble quarry, and the incredibly beautiful Maly Beach
Tinos | Andros
I don’t know why I can’t sleep.
I can’t fall asleep until 4 a.m. I’m drinking cocoa; it turned out very tasty.
I found cocoa powder and canned milk in the kitchen cupboard.
By appearance, the tin can looks like condensed milk, but inside it’s liquid milk that tastes very much like baked milk.

Yesterday was a good day, and I didn’t even have time to write. So I’m describing the events the next morning.
In the morning we’re heading to a small bay that I found yesterday, right by the cape. There’s not a soul there. The bay is well protected from the wind. The sea is cool, clean, and almost without waves.

After lunch, Volchiy came up with an itinerary for us and won’t say where we’re going. We drive for quite a while, through villages with white houses. Through the mountains. On the mountain slopes, terraces have been laid out from stones, but nothing grows there.
I’m starting to like Tinos. It’s so unhurried, so quiet. There are few tourists here, and generally few people and cars.

Mountains and Terraces of Tinos
We turn onto an even narrower road, which soon turns into a dirt track. We descend to the sea along steep switchbacks. I think we’re heading to the beach, but it turns out not quite.
Volchiy parks by an old rusted barrier. A brick is painted on the wall — no entry. On the small patch of ground in front of the barrier there are a couple more cars, one of them with Austrian plates. I think I already saw this car yesterday; there was a young guy in it, alone.
We climb over the barrier and walk along a wide dirt road. Soon I realize this is an abandoned marble quarry. The marble here is green.

Marble Cube
I find it amazing that marble is formed through metamorphism from limestone. Which in turn is formed from the remains of shells and corals. I don’t know why this amazes me so much.
We pass by a little house with boarded-up windows. Old rusty tools are lying around everywhere.
We go deep into the quarry. It’s very amazing here; it reminds me of a canyon. Around us are high marble walls, completely smooth.

We reached the very end of the quarry
Volchiy explores the quarry, climbs a shaky wooden ladder to the second level. And I sit in a chair and watch. Nice.

The Wolf Poses in My Chair
After the quarry, we drive a little further along the dirt road and arrive at a small fishing village on the edge of the cape. There is a very beautiful beach here with white pebbles.

It’s getting dark. The drive home takes almost an hour. We arrive when it’s already completely dark.
