We check out of the hotel and head to the peninsula north of Las Palmas, to Confital Beach. There is no sand here, only black volcanic boulders and beautifully laid-out paths for walking along the ocean.

Confital Beach doesn’t really look like a beach :) People just go for walks here.

In the distance, the city of Las Palmas can be seen. Spaniards come here with baskets of food. They have picnics on the rocks.
We got a Spanish Seat Ateca as a rental car. The car can drive on its own and “stay” in its lane while doing so; it turns the steering wheel by itself if needed. Wolchiy really likes that :)

Today we are staying in the south of the island, in the tourist town of Maspalomas. Here there are sandy dunes and a long sandy beach. After settling into our new accommodation and having a cup of coffee on the terrace, we head there.

It’s cool on the beach, but there are still a lot of people. Almost no one is swimming. A few guys are surfing very beautifully. I persuaded Volchy to go for a swim, and I jumped in for a couple of seconds myself — the water is freezing and the waves are rough. And Volchy kept swimming and swimming — every time I’m amazed at how he manages it.

It’s cool to lie down, so we get dressed and go for a little walk to the dunes. The dunes here are really just a name — simply a few sandy hills, but still amusing.

We’re heading back home. How nice that our apartment has an air conditioner with heating mode — we turn it on and it gets warm. We drink delicious Spanish red wine with jamón and cheese.
