Petra
Jordan 2021
Today we are heading to Petra again; our entrance tickets are valid for 2 days, and that is very good. Yesterday we saw about half of the “must-see” program.
We quickly make our way through the canyon, past the Treasury. Today it is even more crowded here than yesterday; it seems that just before us several buses with tour groups were dropped off.
Behind the Treasury, we turn onto the trail leading up to the High Place of Sacrifice. The narrow path, sometimes carved directly into the pink rocks, winds up the mountain. It is completely deserted here, as if we had entered another world — all the tourists have stayed below.

Trail to the mountain, to the place of sacrifices
We slowly make our way to the top of the mountain. From here, there is a wonderful view of all of Petra. The local Bedouins have laid out carpets on the flat summit. We sit down to rest and have tea with them while enjoying the view. Volchiy is trying to work; some server of theirs has broken down, and everyone keeps writing to him, asking for help.

Tea on the mountain with a magnificent view
By another path we make our way down. From time to time we are followed by Bedouins, trying to point out the way or tell us something. Volchiy politely brushes them off, and I try not to pay them any attention.

Multicolored Rocks

The non-touristy part of Petra. It seemed to us that someone lives there
I’m already a bit tired, the sun is sinking toward the horizon. But we still haven’t been to the royal tombs, so we’re heading there. Today I like Petra much more than yesterday. Probably because we’re wandering through deserted places. I’m growing more and more impressed by the beauty of the rocks, the grandeur of this ancient city.

View of the tombs, let’s go there! It’s a good thing we made it up to the tombs — they’re very beautiful up close.

Royal Tombs

We pass by the tombs, then descend to the main street. There are noticeably fewer people in Petra, and evening is falling. Even near the Treasury there are few people. Volchiy patiently waits for everyone to leave and takes the photo he has dreamed of from the very beginning — the one where a piece of the Treasury is visible from the canyon.

Treasury and Siq Canyon
We say goodbye to Petra.
For dinner, we wanted to buy flatbreads at the restaurant where we had dinner yesterday. They didn’t want to take our money and gave us 3 flatbreads as a gift. We have dinner in the hotel room. We try Jordanian “Petra” beer — I couldn’t drink it at all; it’s very strong (8% alcohol).
