Day 28: October 28

Tetouan - Asilah

Morocco, 2018

Itinerary

It rained all night. And in the morning we left the hotel as quickly as possible, without even having tea. We arrived in Asilah quite early. It had gotten very cold, and here by the ocean it was also very windy.

Asilah is a small resort town. The season here is in summer, and right now there are no tourists at all. The medina in Asilah is very small — just a couple of streets. But it is very beautiful and well kept.

Many houses have paintings on their walls.

We walked through the entire medina in less than an hour. We stopped by a souvenir shop where a very nice old man, who in appearance and behavior was completely unlike a Moroccan, was selling beautiful hand-painted items.

We took a walk to the cold and very unfriendly ocean. We bought warm bread and went to the hotel.

In the evening we went to the “Dar Al Maghrebia” restaurant, which everyone on the internet recommended. The restaurant turned out to be very beautiful. The soup here cost twice as much as usual, but the service and interior were truly appropriate. In addition, as is customary in Morocco, the soup was served with delicious olives and warm bread. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant… While we ate slowly, no one else came in. One can only wonder how such places even survive.
