Day 7: October 7

Mirleft (Sidi Ifni)

Morocco, 2018

Itinerary

In the morning, while we are drinking coffee, we decide to stay in Mirleft for one more night. We really like our apartment and the ocean.. We so want to go for another swim.

We drive to Sidi Ifni. On the way, we swim at a not very good beach. There is a lot of trash here and the water is murky.

Sidi Ifni turns out to be bigger than we thought. We came here simply out of curiosity and partly because we had nothing else to do. So we leave the car and set off to wander aimlessly around the city.

We come out to the large market, apparently a Sunday market. Part of the market is taken up by a flea market where old household items, jewelry, and clothes are sold. We look with interest at one stall after another. The vendors are all very friendly and not at all as pushy as in India. Everyone asks where we are from, and everyone knows Ukraine; they say we are often shown on the news on television.

We saw as many as two Renaults, exactly like the one we used to have, our old beloved first car. Here they’re so battered, taped up with duct tape, our little car looked a hundred times better…

In another section, they sell vegetables, fruits, and spices. We bought 3 kinds of dates, oranges, nectarines, grapes, and of course mint for tea. Happy with our purchases, we return to the car, leave the shopping there, and set off for a walk.

Sidi Ifni surprises with the absence of any sign of life. The streets are empty, there are practically no cars. Under the scorching sun, we walk along deserted streets toward the ocean.

There are a couple of cafés on the main square where locals hide from the heat.

After Sidi Ifni, we head to swim at the beach near Mirleft. We really like this beach: there is no trash at all, the water is clean, and it’s generally very cozy.
