Peru 2023

Day 20: September 8

Puno - Cusco

Peru 2023

Itinerary

Bus to Cusco at 10 in the morning.
We had a delicious breakfast at the hotel and went for a little walk around the city center.

Many people wrote that Puno is not worth attention, that the city is ugly.
But I liked the couple of streets we walked along.
Here it felt like this is a city where people live.

Many women were dressed in traditional clothing.

Breakfast at the hotel. Omelet, pancakes, and cocoa! We ate our fill.

First, we were taken out of the city by minibus to a crossroads, where we waited for the main large bus to Cusco.
While waiting for the bus, we took a short walk. We saw alpacas tied up and grazing by the road.
They are so cute too. Besides their wool, they are also eaten — we saw alpaca steak on restaurant menus.

We soon set off again. Outside the window, there were once more very beautiful views — mountains covered in snow.
We stopped near a roadside restaurant; they offered us lunch there, but we had eaten so well at breakfast that we didn’t feel like eating at all.

We had 30 minutes of free time, so we went for a walk in the village — it was on the hill above the road.

The village is very interesting, real Peru, without tourists, where ordinary people live.

The village is very small, just the main square and a couple of streets.

The locals greeted us cheerfully with “Buenas tardes,” and we greeted them back.

I was very pleased with this short walk. It was as if I had peeked behind another side of Peru.

Then we kept driving for a long, long time, and arrived in Cusco only at 8 p.m.
I was tired and hungry. I know that in this state I don’t behave very adequately :)

Serzhyk found us an inexpensive café right by our hotel.
I really wanted soup, but they didn’t have any.

I said that I didn’t want to eat anything here, but then I calmed down a little and we ordered two very, very tasty “shawarmas” with falafel, carrots, mozzarella, mushrooms.
We drank kombucha.

Our dinner — two huge shawarmas. In the glass — kombucha.

We live in a very charming district of Cusco, San Blas.
There are narrow streets here, small old buildings with beautiful doors and wooden balconies.

In the evening, everything was like a fairy tale.

Lots of cafes, little restaurants, and shops with lovely clothes.
After dinner, we took a very short walk.
I would have gladly walked longer, but I was simply dropping from exhaustion.
