Peru 2023

Day 21: September 9

Cusco

Peru 2023

Itinerary

In the morning we moved to another hotel. We’re staying one night in a four-star hotel.

I really wanted to stay there; it had such good reviews and almost a 50% discount just for this night…

We were asked to wait a couple of hours; we arrived early and our room hadn’t been cleaned yet.
We left our big backpack and went for a walk around Cusco.

The main square is a 15-minute walk away.

Walking around Cusco is a pleasure, but not easy — all the streets here go either uphill or downhill.

The altitude is 3,400 meters above sea level, which adds to the difficulty — we walk slowly, and breathing is a bit hard.

We sat for a bit on the main square on the steps under the church and then went on to the market.

Beautiful. So much to look at.

Beautiful. So much to look at.

It was very interesting at the market! Below are lots of photos from there.

In Peru, they eat guinea pigs. It all started with the Incas; they simply caught them, as they were ordinary game.
The guinea pigs were not domesticated animals.
At the market, we saw whole carcasses of roasted and raw guinea pigs — not a very pleasant sight, so I couldn’t take a photo.

We bought very tasty dark chocolate at the market.

It turns out that cocoa is grown near Cusco.

Peruvian cocoa is valued for its quality and taste.

When we tasted the chocolate at the hotel, we regretted buying only one bar.

A part of the market is occupied by something like a food court - you can eat cheaply here. There are no tourists, only locals.
The menu - soup and a main course cost 90 UAH.
I persuaded Serzhyk to try it.
The food is very simple, the soup was good, the rice with meat was so-so.

We returned home again along very beautiful streets, up and down.
Cusco is a very picturesque city, there is so much here.
I think you can walk here endlessly and notice something new every time.

We went to the same café for dinner again, the one with shawarma - tasty, healthy, and cheap - what more do you need!
