Ko Lanta - Krabi

Asia 2016

Itinerary

Today we are leaving Ko Lanta. A long, long journey back to Krabi town awaits us. We got up early (for our standards), packed up, and set off. The weather had completely turned bad - the sky was tightly covered with gray clouds, it seemed as if a downpour was about to break any minute - but only a fine drizzling rain was falling. So we rode through it from the south of the island to the north - to the first ferry. Then we took two ferries to the mainland, once again rejoicing at how good it is that we are on a moped - the cars were standing in a long, long line. And on a moped you are let through without waiting in line.

From here to Krabi there is still a long way to go - 80 kilometers. For a moped, that is no small distance. But how joyful it can be to ride a moped sometimes! When the wind whistles in your ears and the road slips away from under the wheels and you can press yourself tightly against Wolfie, and he opens the throttle… You never get that feeling of happiness from riding in a car, but on a moped everything is felt so sharply and clearly. And 80 km/h feels like takeoff speed :) On average we were riding at 50-60 km/h on a normal road.

Halfway to Krabi we noticed a large vegetable market: we decided to rest and maybe buy something. As a result, we bought a pineapple (which we ate right there on a bench - the pineapple was sold peeled), limes (I guess they are more correctly called limes - small and green, I really like their taste - they are slightly bitter). We also wanted to buy mint and make a mojito from the rum that Wolfie bought me so I could recover. We have as much as 300 milliliters of rum, it’s a pity to pour it out, and just drinking it straight seems unrealistic to us. Wolfie came up with making a mojito cocktail. At one man’s stall, among a pile of other herbs, we surprisingly found mint, picked 4 sprigs - he gave them to us for free, for which I shared some of my candies from a gift with him.

We arrived in Krabi. Returned our little scooter. And went to the hotel. We left our things, recovered a bit after the ride, and set off to walk around the city in search of food and bus tickets to Phuket. Tomorrow we decided to go to Phuket.
Bus tickets to Phuket cost different amounts at all travel agencies — apparently the price depends on the owner’s honesty. We bought tickets from a nice Thai woman.

We found food in the form of a market that had just opened. All the stalls were a beautiful yellow color, and a stage had been set up right there with the words “Happy Chinese New Year” displayed on it — apparently there would be a celebration in the evening. There wasn’t much food, as many of the cooks had only just started setting up. But we bought delicious rice with chicken and coconut ice cream, which turned out not to be very tasty.
While we were eating the rice, a real downpour suddenly started — everyone quickly hid under the awnings.

In the evening, we tried to make a mojito. According to the recipe, you need sparkling water, which doesn’t exist at all in Thailand. So we bought Sprite and Schweppes to try. It turned out so-so. Volchey didn’t like it at all, while I drank it with pleasure — sweet and minty :)
