Asia 2016

Itinerary

Today we are leaving our hotel in the suburbs of Phuket and moving to another hotel located a little further down, in the town of Chalong.

We went to look for where we could swim and eat. We ate at some local dive, rice with chicken — it was surprisingly very tasty.

We had planned to visit a couple of beaches. The first one turned out to be inaccessible — they had built a hotel there, a barrier gate, a guard sitting there not letting anyone in. The same situation was with the next little bay — only a different hotel had occupied the shoreline… We drove to a big beach, which turned out not to be a beach at all, but something between a fish market and a pier.

It was so strange — there was sand, there was the sea, but there was no desire to swim at all. It smelled strongly of fish. Everyone was buying something. I probably will never be able to understand this. How can you buy a dead octopus and be happy about it, and even ask to have it fried….. It’s not that I can’t eat fried fish, that’s not what I mean — it’s just the whole process itself: walking around a fish market where it stinks terribly, looking at dead fish, choosing something, buying it… The whole process confuses me. I guess I’m just not used to it, not accustomed to something like this.

Well, never mind. We decided to walk farther along the beach, toward the rocks — hoping that we’d be able to swim there. We walked and walked. Then I slipped and fell on the rocks, staining my favorite white skirt with blood. Volchiy rinsed it in the water and we went home. On the way we bought Vanish, which for the second time on this trip has saved my skirt.
