Chile 2023

Day 17: October 18

Perito Moreno - Gobernador Gregores

Chile 2023

Itinerary

Today we’re just continuing south through Argentina.
There are no special plans.

I’m amazed at how much the landscape changed after we crossed the border.

In Chile there were trees, mountains, snow.

And here, in Argentina - an endless desert.

The snow-covered mountains remained far, far away on the horizon.

And there are no trees at all.

Moving on through Argentina. Desert all around.

Along the way, we noticed beautiful red hills. We decided to stop and take a little walk to see them up close.

In Argentina, a low fence is installed everywhere along the road — wooden posts with iron bars.

I’m on the rock :) It was very windy. I wanted to get all the way to the edge, but I was scared.

We keep going. There is no one and nothing around. There are no settlements.

Only now and then guanacos run across the road. There are many of them here.
They are very similar to the vicuñas we saw earlier, but guanacos are larger in size (vicuñas are more slender).

In the middle of the desert, luckily for us, there was a gas station. The pump was covered in stickers. It’s a local trend here to leave stickers behind, something like “I was here.”

We arrived in the city of Gobernador Gregores. We will stay there overnight.

We went to the supermarket.

Serzhyk by the mate stand. There’s so much of it here!

Our home. I’m preparing dinner.

We’re having dinner. We’re drinking Argentine Malbec. For some reason, I didn’t really like it.

Our route for today: Perito Moreno → Gobernador Gregores. Even on the map, you can see that Chile is green (on the right), while Argentina is the color of the desert.
