Chile 2023

Day 34: November 4

Puerto Madryn - Puerto Pirámides

Chile 2023

Itinerary

This morning we have a boat tour.

We are sailing in hopes of seeing southern right whales.

The tours depart from the town of Puerto Piramides, 100 km from Puerto Madryn, where we are staying.

There is no pier in Puerto Piramides.

For the first time, we saw an interesting system where a tractor pushes the boat into the water and then pulls it back out.

Day 34: November 4

I didn’t take any photos at all. I just gazed at the ocean, enchanted.

Sergik tried to take a couple of photos, but you can’t make anything out in them.

The whales were quite far away.

But still, it was a miracle that we saw them...

We saw a huge black body rising to the surface of the water.

We saw the mother whale and her baby.

We saw them breathing and blowing little fountains.

A very distant whale. It poked its head out of the ocean.

The tour lasted an hour and a half, but it flew by in an instant...

I would have really liked the whale to swim closer to the boat so I could get a better look at it.

So it remained out of reach. Very far away... But alive. Real.

On the way, we stopped by a nice little pastry shop. We bought two bags full of all sorts of delicious treats — croissants, cheese balls, and cheesecake!
