Calama - El Tatio - San Pedro
Chile 2023
After breakfast, we set off on the road; today we have a busy day ahead.
First, we head to the El Tatio geyser field.

Everything around is tinged pink. On the road, there’s no one but us...

Serzhyk spotted cacti on the horizon. We stopped to walk over to them. From afar, I didn’t realize how huge they were!...

Giant cactus!
Later we made another stop for lunch. We passed through a very picturesque place, with large pink stones as if scattered by someone.
We climbed onto a large flat rock, from which there was a wonderful view.

The photo shows an orange thermos that we bought in Kalami. I’m so happy about it! Now we can drink tea during our lunch stops.

As we move, the landscape keeps changing. Cool little green bushes grow all around.

Later, everything changed again into a pink lifeless desert

Incredible views. Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t capture the magical feel of that place at all.

Another stop by the river. We saw many vicuñas here. They drink water and eat algae.

A herd of vicuñas was running across the river right in front of me

Vicuñas

Here the road became a dirt road
We arrived at El Tatio. It’s beautiful here, with many small geysers. After Iceland, it’s not quite as impressive....
Altitude above sea level - 4,200 meters! Cool and very windy.

We really liked the “fountain,” as they called it. A small pond with hot bubbling water. We sat by it for a long time, watching the water.
After El Tatio, we head to the town of San Pedro, where we will stay for three nights.
On the way, we pass the lake where we saw flamingos! I had dreamed so much of seeing them.
There were many of them here, and they were standing very close.

Let’s go see the flamingos

Our dinner. Serzhyk came up with wrapping fried potatoes in tortillas. It turned out very tasty!
